can i be evicted for late rent

I am a married man with 2 childeren renting a 2 bdrm apt from my apts. times fell tough this month and rent is late i paid more than half my rent on time.  I did not have the money for the other half however,  I went to get assistance for the remainder amount plus late fees i just had to have the management contact dshs to become a vendor so the apt. could recieve their money but now i get home this afternoon after getting that all aproved and i get an eviction notice to be out by the 30th of this month.  I have been trying to contact the management reguarding this situation no one will talk to me.  I thought that as long as i paid my late fees since its technically 4 days late that everything would be fine.  What do i do? Can they really evict me on the basis that i cannot pay when i did get the money up and they can have their money.  I’m really scared i am not able to afford a move my wife has cancer and times are getting harder please let me know if you have any legal advice as to what my rights are.  Thank you soooo much
