breaking 1yr lease
By Connie H
We moved into senior housing 55 plus and have run into units with bedbugs. They have had the bed bug dog go through all the unit to locate them then had to fumigate them along with ajoining rm ours this tqake about 4 hours each time and has to be checked in 4 months. My husband is 82 and I 71. we are told that we need to move furniture away from walls take bed linen off pick up all animal beding and dishes , and be out of room 2hours before dog comes in. We have a very small common area that we have to wait in while this is being done. then they come back in a couple of days to fumigate infected room along with any rooms either side to be fumigated too. We have been in this housing since Nov2010 and this has been done twice so far and we will have to do this all over again in 4 months. Do we have any legal right to break our lease since this was never told to us. Also we are not able to put window A/C in as they have a wall sleeve which holds a A/C, but have to buy for $800.00 which they did not tell us. Let alone all the smashing for bottles due to drunks coming back after parting all night. I found a place owned by the same company about 20miles away, and have spoken to them , they have room for us so we asked them to hold the room and I have started all the paper work. I have also sent a letter to the managers here and asked them to forward to owners. I have been asking them daily if any word but they say it takes time. I do not have time if I am to move to this other property!!!! I also have been stressed by this and my B/P is 158/90 and take 2 med for this and have also developed Asthma and am on a home ventilator from my doctor. What are our right for this. Please advise what else I need to do. My lease is up Nov 1st 2011, but do not think I can last here that long. This last time we had to be out of our unit from 9AM till 2:30 PM. In a small common area with just donuts and coffee to eat. We are to old for this, Please help.
