CAN MY LANDLORD REFUSE TO GIVE ME KEYS AFTER SIGNING A LEASE?

I signed a lease for a house in Indiana, and I paid my deposit and first months rent.  I was delayed moving from another state, but had family in Indiana who I was told would be provided the keys to prepare the home for me prior to my arrival.  After paying the landlord and signing the lease, the landlord refused to give my son the promised keys.  I paid rent for almost three months without being provided the keys to the property. Is this legal? Can I demand that rent returned to me since I was denied access to the home.

That is certainly not legal. On the lease agreement, did you put who to give the keys to? Like yourname/sonsname?Maybe that part wasn’t clear to the landlord that’s why he refused to give the keys to your son. But if you are in Indiana already and you tried to get the keys but were still denied access to the property, then that’s something to be concerned about. Did you try talking to your landlord? If you did and nothing was resolved, you can file a complaint against him. I know RPA has a complaint center you could use.
