Landlord asking to pay for broke AC which he never fixed
By smangalam
We have been living in the apartment from July 23rd, 2011. Few months ago our closet door broke and we emailed our landlord. He never came to see the door. Then later our both AC units stopped working and we emailed him again requesting immediate action as it was extremely hot for our 8 month old baby even to stay in the apartment. He finally showed up, reviewed the closet door and AC units. He said that you broke the AC units and that he would charge to fix the closet door. We said ok about charging for Closet door but told him that he should send a technician to look at the AC’s before blaming us for breaking the AC units. The technician came and fixed the AC unit in bedroom saying that circuit broke and was easy fix. For AC units in Living room the technician told us that its an old unit and the pad is not working. So for 3 months in summer we did not have any AC in our living room for our 8 month old baby who stays in the house all day. Our closet door was never fixed. Now our landlord wants to charge us for the AC but my question is why we should pay for it when he never got it fixed. We paid full rent all the months and we had to live with broken closet door which fell on me twice and was very dangerous for our 8 month crawling baby. In addition, he only got one AC unit fixed.
