Increased Rates next year because of a discount this year?
By Student
A few of us in my very nice complex in Charlotte, NC are students at a local graduate school. The former management company offered a discount to all students for a 1 year lease, and during that time and new company bought the complex and has told a fellow student that because we are receiving a discount on rent this year (they are honoring the old company’s lease agreements) we wiil be charged more next year over what other residents are paying to make up for the difference. That seems obviously wrong to me, so what exactly are the rules/laws in that area? I know students arent a protected class, and we might have to call/have someone come in and act like a new non-student renter to find out what the current rental rate is when we are ready to renew.
