Getting deposit back, didn’t sign lease
By sdrenter
Hello, I found myself in the situation in which I put down a deposit for an apartment that was to be available July 1st. My application was accepted, I put down the deposit to save the apartment, and signed the deposit agreement. However, 2 days later I got a called from the management saying that the current habitants of the apartment retracted their notice to leave the apartment. The management said that they couldn’t do anything to get them out since they were sill on the lease. They promise they were going to get out money back for the deposit, but it’s already been a week and we still haven’t receive the money. Is there something I can do to speed up the process? The management says they have to receive the check from the owner of the apartment, and that they still haven’t receive it. I also want them to return the money I paid for the application fee, since they false advertised a location. They say that the application fee is not refundable, but I told them I want it back since the only reason I applied was because the apartment was advertised, and I wouldn’t have applied if the apartment was availabe. What should I do to get my money back faster? Thank you
